Kodak didn't lose to competition - but to their own scarcity minsdet

We all don’t need any introduction to Kodak.

Fifteen to twenty years ago, it was a big name in photography.

If you had visited any photo studio back in those days, you had seen the branding of Kodak displayed outside every photo studio.

They were that dominant.

So, you can guess they had everything they needed to grow their business multifold.

But still they failed so badly, that they barely exist anywhere these days.

In 1975, Kodak engineer Steven Sasson invented the first digital camera in Kodak’s labs and presented it to the company’s executives.

But the team rejected his idea,

They rejected this saying that if people moved to digital then nobody will buy films (...that black strip where pictures were stroed then)

And they keep spending more and more money building a strategy to sell films.

But their scarcity mindset stopped them in their tracks and eventually made them file for bankruptcy.

If they had embraced an abundance mindset, they might still be market leaders today.

So, it’s always the right business mindset that we call as The Founder’s Mindset that determines whether a business will grow or disappear.

And, you might have experienced this before…

Think about a day when you were really happy.

Maybe you closed a big deal that day...

Or your company achieved some big goal...

Or maybe your life partner said something special to you...

You were happy that day.... and then because you were joyful, a few more good things happened to you that day..

You heard more and more good news that day or the following day…

In the year 2000, two well-known psychologists Barbara Fredrickson and Christine Branigan conducted a study.

In that study they showed a video clip to a set of people.

The clip triggered many happy emotions in the viewers.

After they watched the clip, they were asked to write about what they want to do with their life and business.

All viewers wrote their dreams and the results were amazing.

Everyone wrote something big, magical.... something that they had never thought of before.

It was all due to an abundant mindset.

But the study didn’t stop there.

They then experinted with a different set of people who were shown another clip that triggered fearful emotions like anger, doubt, insecurity etc.

And they were then asked to do the same task as before: to write down their goals.

But this time result was different and even shocking...

Their thinking became narrow.

Fearful emotions suppressed their ability to think big and play safe.

Because they all were operating with a scarcity mindset.

And this is why businesses fail

It’s the mindset, not the strategy. Period.

But sadly you won’t see much awareness around this.

You’ll find a new advertisement every day on your feed teaching new strategies, new funnels, new tactics.

But despite applying them all to your business, you haven't seen the success you desire.

And the reason is - knowingly or unknowingly - you are perhaps operating from a scarcity mindset.

It’s like believing you’re breathing 100% pure air.

You know that’s not true—there are always some impurities present.

Similarly, we may unknowingly carry a scarcity mindset by default.

And when you operate your business and life with this mindset - you struggle more often than not.
